Tagestour auf dem Sauer-Radweg
Trier
"Take a look at the other side..."
Sometimes on this side, sometimes on the other side of the Sûre - on this one-day cycle tour in the Eifel , cyclists can easily switch back and forth between Germany and Luxembourg. It is possible to change sides at one of the many bridges, and the cycle paths on both sides of the Sûre are asphalted. You start in Trier and the route first leads along the Moselle to Wasserbillig, where the Sûre flows into the Moselle.
A number of cycle paths run through the Eifel along former railroad lines, including part of the Sauer Cycle Path. Cycling here is relaxed, from the lowest point of the Luxembourg countryside, the cycle tour leads through the vineyard landscape. Things get exciting in Metzdorf, where the cycle path has been "elevated" to protect the valuable wetlands. Shortly afterwards, the next adventure: the Ralingen Tunnel has to be crossed. And time and again, cyclists can see the other side of the border river. Echternach invites you to make a stopover. Winding alleyways, the remains and towers of the old town wall, a market square with a Gothic town house - Luxembourg's oldest town has retained its medieval ambience. On the German side, the route continues along the banks of the Sûre towards Minden. From there, the Sauertal cycle bus (line 260) takes cyclists back to Trier.
